Photostory

Photostory is a fun tool to learn and explore. Great!!!
Photostory will allow students to work in groups to do their project.
Teachers could assign them to practice speaking and narration.

Examples include how to:

• cook,
• provide instructions on doing things;
• give directions;
• describe their travels and holiday/weekend; and/or
• others

Below is an example of a photostory of my trip to the Polynesian Cultural Center.

 Cambodia & Myanmar 

Regional Teacher Training Center/College 

Topic: Sharing Teaching Practice Experiences between Prospective Teachers in Cambodia and Myanmar

(Teaching practice is divided into two stages: observation stage and teaching stage)

1.  Goals

The project aims to:

     - identify strengths and weaknesses of teacher trainees' teaching practice

     - find out effective feedback to teacher trainees during teaching practice, and

     - share how and what to do in observing stage and teaching stage.

2.  Target participants

The second year teacher trainees are divided into groups of 2 or 3, and they have to do teaching practice for six weeks in an assigned lower secondary school.

3.  Procedures

During the first two weeks, teacher trainees will observe the supervisor whose classes will be taught  to get some ideas about lesson plannings, classroom management, teaching methods, techniques as well as problem solving. After this stage, teacher trainees will teach for 4 weeks while they will be also observed by their supervisor and inspector, as well as their group members. Then, they will get some feedback from them.

4.  Tools

One of the most suitable technologies available for this project is Google's Hangout because the participants can communicate with each other both verbally and non-verbally. Teacher trainees will share and give feedback on each other's work on what they notice and learn during each stage, and they have to discuss to identify what their strengths and weaknesses are in both stages.

Voki

Voki can be used in many ways. For improving student's speaking skills, students can do a storytelling, a news broadcasting, a dialogue, a conversation, a role play, etc. For student's pronunciation improvement, teachers can record targeted vocabularies and ask students to listen for the native accent.

For example, students can use Voki to talk about their experiences in their last Halloween.

Students, moreover, can use Voki to broadcast any up-to-dated news they want to share with their classmates. This activity could improve their self-confidence and speaking fluency.

Needs Analysis

Title: INSTITUTIONAL READINESS TO INCORPORATING ICT IN TEACHING AND LEARNING

PURPOSE

The needs analysis aims to find out whether our institution is ready to apply ICT in teaching and learning

MAIN QUESTION

Is our institution ready to apply ICT in teaching and learning?

SOURCES

Teachers and students are the ones who work practically with the technologies, so we want to learn about their ability and perception. School principals and administrators are those who work to make those technology resources available at their institutions, while the policy makers at the Ministry of Education work on planning and curriculum as a whole, so they might have an overview of the institutional readiness.

METHODS

Questionnaire, interview, and group discussion. Some techniques are for triangulation purposes.

CHALLENGES

• Take longer time than expected to create questionnaires and to conduct the interviews
• Difficult to make appointments with school principals and policy makers
• Some information may not be completely true
• Our questionnaires may not include all the information needed
• Deal with data analysis
• Students, teachers and relevant stakeholders might not understand some ICT terms

Here are some do and don't:

• Privately reproducing a work in a single copy, by a natural person for their own personal purposes, with certain exceptions;
• Freely and privately representing a work to a close circle of people, such as family or friends;
• Arranging to preserve in a library the copy of a work for conservation or research;
• Using a work for educational purposes, but not for financial gain;
• Using analyses and short quotations justified by the critical, polemical, pedagogical, scientific or informative nature of that work, so long as the source and author are properly attributed;

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION

Every year, the NIE recruits approximately 1,000 trainee teachers from various fields of study to train for one year. There, prospective trainee teachers will be equip with knowledge of a wide range of subjects, namely content knowledge, teaching methodology, educational science, administrative procedures, professional ethics, and so forth.
